Digitization

This session focuses on each aspect of the digitization process, from developing policies to best practices for editing images. This session is geared toward professionals familiar with digitization (but not experts), those working in settings without a robust digitization program, and those trying to get a digitization program off the ground. This workshop will not discuss advanced digitization processes and workflows, as those topics are better suited for professionals with more experience.

 Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of the unique aspects of the selection process and the importance of collection development policies for digitization

  • Learn the basics of digitization capture standards (such as FADGI), hardware and software, and workflows

  • Improve vocabulary around digitization processes and technologies

Michelle Schierburg

Digital Collections Librarian in the Special Collections and Archives Department, Denver Public Library

Michelle Schierburg is Digital Collections Librarian in the Special Collections and Archives (SCA) Department at the Denver Public Library. She manages the digital collections, digitization lab, and assists with the development of internal and external digital projects. In addition to her day job, Michelle teaches digitization at the University of Denver and currently serves as the Workshop Coordinator for the VRA Regional Workshop Implementation Team. She obtained an MLIS from the University of Denver and holds a BFA from the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
